KFL&A COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy Marks One Year

Kingston, ON – Today, marks one year since the first COVID-19 vaccination was administered in the KFL&A region. With the tremendous support of multiple stakeholders and partners working together to administer vaccines, KFL&A Public Health is thrilled and grateful to share that over 90 per cent of 5 years and over have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. In total, the number of vaccines administered in the region has surpassed 477,000 doses.

Kingston — With Environment Canada’s forecast calling for wind chill temperatures below -30°C tonight and into Tuesday morning, KFL&A Public Health is issuing a Cold Weather Health Warning for the KFL&A region. This is the coldest air so far this season, more northern areas in our region such as Plevna and Sharbot Lake may see wind chill temperatures dip to -35°C.

Today, Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health at KFL&A Public Health has rescinded three local Letters of Instruction and one Class Order as province enters Step 2 of its Roadmap to Reopen with modifications.

KFL&A Public Health was notified by the Ministry of Health of a shipment delay impacting the delivery of Pfizer vaccine to our community clinics.
In response to this unexpected delay, most clinics in the KFL&A region will move to offer Moderna vaccine with a limited supply of Pfizer vaccine available for individuals who are 12 to 29 years old to receive Pfizer because of the lower risk for pericarditis or myocarditis. Today, Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health at KFL&A Public Health issued a Letter of Instruction pursuant to Section 2 of Schedule 1 of Ontario Regulation 364/20: Rules for Areas at Step 3 and at the Roadmap Exit Step, to require businesses and organizations to reinstate capacity limits, and strengthen requirements around masking, physical distancing, and other public health measures.
